Peptide Shampoo Private Label Formulation and OEM Guide

Peptide shampoo private label guide covering rinse-off dose, surfactants, deposition, scalp claims, preservation, pump testing and OEM release controls.

A peptide shampoo is a rinse-off surfactant product, not a scalp serum with more foam. Contact time is short, dilution is high and many users apply mainly to hair rather than scalp. The useful development question is therefore not whether a peptide can be added, but whether its identity, dose, processing and finished-product evidence justify the cost.

Set the use case before selecting the peptide

Separate scalp-cleansing, conditioned hair feel and leave-on scalp care. Biotinoyl Tripeptide-1 or Acetyl Tetrapeptide-3 may appear in hair concepts, but ingredient literature does not prove performance from a short shampoo exposure. Define dose per wash, contact instructions and cosmetic claim before buying a trade blend.

Audit the commercial stock solution

Lock INCI, product code, peptide assay, carrier, preservative, pH and recommended temperature. Normalize cost to active peptide per kilogram of shampoo. A 2% addition of a diluted multi-ingredient stock cannot be presented as 2% pure peptide, and the carrier may alter foam or clarity.

Screen the real surfactant system

Compare base, peptide-only and full-formula controls across anionic, amphoteric and nonionic components. Track haze, precipitation, odor, color, foam and viscosity after equilibration and aging. Cationic deposition polymers can interact with charged materials; salt curves can shift after a buffered peptide solution is added.

Control process heat and aeration

Add the peptide at the coolest validated stage after the main surfactant phase is uniform. Record temperature, hold time and mixing energy. Hot pearlizing processes need peptide recovery data through the actual cycle. Excessive mixing creates foam that hides incomplete dispersion and produces misleading batch volume.

Measure deposition instead of assuming it

If a deposition or scalp-retention claim matters, use an appropriate method with the finished shampoo and realistic rinse. A marker detected in un-rinsed foam is not evidence of delivery. Where analytical recovery is impractical, keep claims focused on cleansing, manageability and user-perceived scalp or hair condition.

Validate preservation and the dispenser

Supplier preservatives are diluted in the finished shampoo. Assess microbial protection in the market pack, including large salon pumps. Test priming, dose, leakage, clogging and output after warm, cool and cycling storage; peptide-stock salts and polymers can change pump performance as viscosity drifts.

Release the batch with defensible limits

Specify appearance, odor, pH, viscosity, microbiology, fill and package function. Include claim-critical peptide testing where feasible and change control for the exact stock solution. Avoid hair-growth, follicle-regeneration or disease claims. State the cosmetic use and destination market in the OEM brief.

Questions buyers also ask

Can peptides be used in shampoo?

Yes, if the exact grade is stable and compatible, but rinse-off exposure and finished-product evidence must guide the claim.

Do surfactants destroy peptides?

Not automatically; charge, pH, carrier, temperature and surfactant composition determine risk and require testing.

How much peptide should shampoo contain?

Calculate from assayed active, dose per wash, safety and evidence; a trade-blend percentage is not a universal target.

Can peptide shampoo claim hair growth?

Hair-growth or treatment claims may exceed cosmetic scope and should not be inferred from ingredient studies.

Evidence and compliance note

Supplier data and laboratory literature guide development, but they do not replace safety, stability, microbial and performance evidence for the finished cosmetic in its market pack. Ingredient status and claims must be checked for each destination market.
